Dick Gephardt

Executive Summary

It looks like Dick Gephardt is joining the party. It's not entirely clear just what the problem is, although this could be unconfirmed addresses, just like the most recently seen problem with the Dean Campaign.

            Dick Gephardt Vows to Continue
            His Fight for Fair Trade
In Monday night's Town Hall Meeting, hosted by the Sheet Metal Workers International
Association and Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell, Dick Gephardt "displayed disgust with Bush's tax cuts,
saying they were failing to help the economy, according to a story in the Allentown (PA) Morning
Call. Appearing on stage with five other Democratic candidates, Gephardt "said he fought to protect
U.S. workers when NAFTA and other treaties went through Congress -- often opposing Clinton -- and
would do more as president."

            Gephardt Takes Message of Economic
            Renewal to New Hampshire
Dick Gephardt held a roundtable discussion with Portsmouth, NH, business owners Friday
to talk about the failing Bush economic plan and health care coverage for the uninsured. "The Bush
economic program is not working," said Gephardt. "(The United States) is losing 83,000 jobs a
month." The Portsmouth Herald noted that "both small and large businesses, as well as the
self-employed" were well-represented in the group of concerned voters.

"'There are 100,000 in New Hampshire without health insurance,' Gephardt said in
response to a health-care worker who said she had seen her share of patients without insurance." He
pledged to rescind Bush's tax cuts for the wealthy in favor of guaranteeing health care to all
Americans with his plan, which would "pump $700 million into New Hampshire over three years."

Teamsters Add to Gephardt's Strength in Iowa
Nearly 12,000 of the 1.4 million member International brotherhood of Teamsters are Iowa
residents, and following the announcement of that union's endorsement on Saturday, Des Moines
Register Columnist David Yepsen offered his ideas on the Iowa race. "While Gephardt enjoyed some
union support in his successful 1988 fight in Iowa, it was nothing like what he's getting now. One
longtime Gephardt aide said that in 1988 only two regional unions had endorsed Gephardt prior to the
caucuses. Today, he's got 11 internationals."

Yepsen wrote that "If every Iowan who is a member of a union that has endorsed Gephardt
would get to a caucus on Jan 19 and bring a spouse, friend or relative, Gephardt would win in a
blowout."

            Oklahomans Give Gephardt
            "Rousing Ovation" at Forum
Dick Gephardt joined 5 other Democratic nominees Tuesday night in Oklahoma in "blasting
President Bush for what they said was a failed economic policy and a mishandling of the United
States' involvement in Iraq." Gephardt asked the audience to recall the economic prosperity of the
Clinton years, and received "a rousing ovation" when he stated that "'In 24 months, this president
(Bush) has messed it all up.'"

The Norman Transcript reports that Gephardt was also strongly critical of the Bush
administration for its "arrogant foreign policy." After the forum at the Gallagher-Iba Arena on
Oklahoma State University's Stillwater campus, Gephardt was joined by more than 500 supporters at a
reception in the university's Noble Research Center.

A quick google doesn't show any particular spam problems with getactive.com, who sent the mailing. I wonder if this is another problem with unconfirmed email addresses, quite frankly.
